Motorway toll plaza in Morocco

Quick answer: Morocco toll roads are the motorways (autoroutes) run by Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM), about 1,800 km in total. For a normal car (class 1), the toll from the Casablanca airport area to Marrakech is about 83–89 DH, and Casablanca–Rabat is about 25 DH. Cash in dirhams is accepted at every toll plaza; bank cards work only at card lanes on some larger plazas, and the Jawaz badge lets you pass without stopping at the same price.

Motorways are the fastest and safest way to drive between Morocco's big cities. This guide explains how the toll system works, how to pay, what the main routes cost and which roads are free.

Jawaz electronic badgeDedicated lanes, no stoppingSame price as cash; prepaid account

Our advice: always keep 100–200 DH in cash in the car. It covers most single trips between big cities.

What is Jawaz?

Jawaz is ADM's electronic toll badge. It sticks to the windscreen and is linked to a prepaid account, so the barrier opens automatically in the Jawaz lanes. It saves time at busy plazas but does not lower the price. For a short holiday, cash is the simplest option.

Example: Casablanca airport to Marrakech

The most common trip for our customers is from Casablanca Mohammed V airport to Marrakech. You join the motorway near the airport, drive south past Settat and Benguerir, and pay about 83–89 DH in total. The drive takes about 2 h 30 without stops. Motorway driving tips

  1. The speed limit is 120 km/h unless signs show less; radars are frequent.
  2. Service areas offer fuel, cafés, restaurants and toilets. On Casablanca–Marrakech, there are stops around Settat and Benguerir.
  3. Keep to the right lane except to overtake.
  4. Do not stop on the hard shoulder except in an emergency.
  5. Fill up before leaving the city, and take a break every 2 hours.

Which roads are free?

National roads (N roads) and expressways (voies express) are free. They are slower, cross villages and towns, and have lower speed limits (usually 100 km/h outside towns and 60 km/h in towns). They are often more scenic, for example in the Atlas Mountains, where there is no motorway.
